Back some time ago I was restoring a PC and working with Dell on the restore. Somehow the Main Hard Drive got named F: and my Zip Drive got named C: At that time Dell said this would not cause any problems with running any programs and it really hasn't over all this time.

However I believe I am going to have to run a "Repair Restore" shortly on the PC and I don't know if this incorrect drive lettering will cause me any problems ?

Is there an easy way to get these renamed to the correct letters ?

    Thank you,
    Paul

    try this:
right click "my computer" and choose "manage".
    then choose "disk management".
then right click the drive named "c" and choose "change drive letter and path".
choose "change" and pick a letter (if you want "f" you'll have to choose a temporary one first because "f" is used by the other drive so it's unavailable).
do the same for "f" and choose "c".

If I recall correctly a Dell repair restore wipes the hard drive and reinstalls windows, so your drive lettering will be recreated. Make sure you've got any data backed up.
If you change your current F: to C: you may well run into problems with software already installed as the s/w will be looking for paths to the F: drive and not find it.

Can I do this switch without messing up any software I currently have on my system i.e. Will programs be looking to go to F: which will then be the C: if I do the switch ?
    Thanks,
    Paul

It could be risky, yes. I'd leave it alone if I were you

Have a look at How to restore the system/boot drive letter in Windows for more info, but read the warning at the top.

If I were you, I'd back up any data that you want to keep, reformat and reinstall. It sounds as though the PC could do with a completely fresh install rather than trying to recover it.
