I got the game for $11.50 off Amazon and was really looking forward to playing it but what happens when I install it? I get an AppError message saying the application failed to initialize, click OK to terminate the app or something to that effect. This is really a major let down so do any of you know a fix to this? It's the DVD version if that helps. I've got old video drivers but DirectX 9.0c so I should be okay. Maybe I'm missing something here, thanks in advance:)

I would guess (from what you've said) that its the auto run option thats failing to work.... have you tried finding the actuall install file (not the one that displays the auto run menu!) and running that?

If that fails down get a friend to download a copy (im gueesing that your on dial up from your title :)) and use that to install the game using YOUR SERIAL (It's NOT piracy if YOU OWN a license to the product)

Thanks, this was using the desktop shortcut actually. I reinstalled it but still nothing. I also tired lauching it from the lauch game icon in the Riddick install menu thing that comes up when you insert the CD. Nothing. I have no friends that would know enough to DL it for me but thanks for the advice.:)

I don't think it's faulty considering I bought it new and packaged. I was very hasty in my installation of utilities and drivers off my mobo disk so I probably just missed something. Simpson's Hit & Run works though but you can't really compare those.

:p, true, well for 11.50 it's no major loss, I'll try it again when I get my next computer whatever that will be.

Alright well I thought I'd give it another stab and after finding a support page discussing solutions to the very same prob I have and trying a bunch of simple things that didn't work (closeing background tasks, disabling startup items, doing a sound hardware acceleration test etc.) I decided to order a Win Serice Pack 2 disk for free of MS's update page. Nice little offer they have, didn't even charge for shipping, probably because it will take at least a month:eek: It's supposed to help so I'll see. But do I need Service Pack 1 before I can install 2?

No you dont. Infact, you dont need any service pack to install it!
What is it supposed to help?

Yeah the site said that neither service pack is required but downloading 2 has helped people with the failed initialization message. Either way I could use SP2 as I'm pretty out of date and lacking security.
