CMOS Battery question

    Can somebody tell me what problems can happen if the CMOS battery goes out.
    I think mine went out on my computer. Please help if you can. Thank You.

    Nothing tragic will happen. The CMOS battery keeps a small current running through to keep the CMOS settings. If its taken out or the CMOS cleared via a jumper all CMOS settings like boot drive order, CPU speed, RAM speed are set to the default (usually default is the correct settings anyway) as well as the current time which is reset.

    If your battery is dead or fallen out, then you'll probably receive a checksum error when you boot up. It won't damage anything though.

    They are cheap and easy to replace.

    A CR2032 battery will do the trick, and they are available on eBay for as little as £1
