Compaq Presario recovery disk question

I have a compaq presario 12xL400 laptop. Does anybody know of a trusted web site were I can get a recovery disk.

 

You can't download a recovery disc, since it is really an OEM preinstalled copy of Windows. You'll either have to install and optain a legal operating system yourself or contact Compaq (now owned by HP) for a recovery disc. I wouldn't count on it though, since that laptop is way out of warranty.

 

Do you know of a web site were I could buy one.

 

What operating system are you planning to run? How much RAM does the laptop have currently?

 

I am planning to run Windows ME. I have 64mb of memory and going to upgrade to 256mb of memory.

 

With 256mb of RAM, I would strongly recommend Windows 2000 pro over Windows ME. Windows 2000 is arguably the most stable and reliable version of Windows to date, and you can get it for relatively cheap from Pricegrabber. Windows ME has a reputation for being the most unreliable version of Windows to date. Since you're starting from square one anyway, I'd avoid ME at all cost.
