Hi, I'm not good at making things clear on questions so I'll try and be as clear as possible : Situation: I've recently been messing around with a programme called LANDesk Thinstall. It compresses a whole programme and all the registry keys etc etc into one single executable. This means I can run the programme off my memory stick at school without having to install it. I've been trying to get a game to work at school that we can play on multiplayer (eg Far Cry). However, Far Cry requires a 3D Graphics accelerator and Direct X 9, neither of which the school have. So, I realised that I have Half - Life that can be run without Direct X or Open GL, and so I compressed that and took it in today. However, it must be run in Compatibility Mode (Windows 2000), and so I had to run "hcp://system/compatctr/compatmode.htm" in Internet Explorer because right clicking on the school computers is disabled, and going to File then Properties doesn't do anything. Problem: In order to give the game to other people so we can have multiplayers, I need a way to easily enable Compatibility mode, as it must be done every time I want to start the game. Because the game is stored on a memory stick the settings are not saved. Does anyone know a way I can easily overcome this? I tried setting all the exe's to Compatability mode before compressing it to one single executable, but to no avail. Thanks, Thomas P.S Sorry for the lengthy post I thought it would be easier if I explained the situation to you first.
can you get into the BIOS on your school systems ? how big is your USB pen ? the reason i'm asking is: if you could change BIOS you could possibly set it to boot from USB, although the USB pen would have to be large enough to install a stripped down version of XP or 2k, or you could try entering some of these backdoor passwords on the school systems BTW: set the boot priority to boot USB then HDD, so, then they will boot from HDD if no bootable USB pen is inserted Edit the OS, drivers, GL, Direct X etc. etc. would be installed on the USB pen
Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't really want to get into that much trouble if I do get caught. I've written a guide and converted it to PDF, making it as simple as possible to follow. Haven't tried it yet though because been on works experience. Also, thanks for taking it off the Unanswered Threads, I'd forgotten to do it because it's been on a while. BTW my memory stick is 4gb
yeah, sorry, forgot to mention that you may get into trouble if you get caught, sorry, this is not to be recommended then, i probably shouldn't have posted it, sorry
No need to apologise! I've put a disclaimer that shows each time the game is loaded, and my name is not mentioned anywhere, so hopefully I won't get caught. I did consider using LAN Desk with Microsoft Virtual PC, but can't be bothered at the moment, may look into it in the future though. Thanks, Thomas
