Hi, I have a funny problem on my laptop. Quite often when I reboot, the year resets to the year 2000. I would have said it was the CMOS battery gone flat, but the date remains the same except the year. Eg just now it reverted to 3rd July 2000  The laptop details can be seen in my signature. It happens in Slackware aswell as Windows, so i know for once it's not Windows messing up my computer!

lol, a most entertain problem.... as the problem is OS independant is seems reasonable that the solution will be too.

All that i can think of is Re-Flashing Your BIOS, which runs the risk of bricking that rather nice Slackware machine! (i would add another 128MB of ram, lets things breath a bit more.... i found with 128Mb on a Dell-latitude [650Mhz] running Suse i only had 1500 KB of free memory).

Flashing, as mention, is quite risky as if anything goes wrong there is nothing left to start the computer... you would have to pull the CMOS and manually flash it if anything went wrong, and not many people have the hardware to do that... and i still havnt managed to find my BIOS inside my laptop (i wanted to see if i could get a spare CMOS to try this HACK ).

If you decide you want soo badly to get the date sorted, you will need luck and a new BIOS image from your laptop manufacturer. good luck!

[i belive i may be an ickle unsober, take my advice with a pinch of salt please!]
