Hello everybody ,, I have a pentuim 4 processor 2.4G from 2 days I noticed that the pc hanged many times . Thin I check the cpu temp which reaches 70 C !! I changed the fan and the cooler but no change in the status . What's the problem now ? plz help me Thanx in advance .
-Is de... CPU usage monitor showing anything abnormal? (are you really idling?) I suggest just touching the fins of your heatsink and seeing if it is hot when your PC is idling. If it burns you, you know it's 70C. My 3.0GHz P4 ran at about 38C to 43C (overclocked 400MHz) when idling. And about 60C to 65 on Prime95 (the CPU killer) It's a Northwood though. -Is your CPU a Northwood Core or a Prescott Core? Full load temps of a Prescott get to about 75C. (ask me if you don't know how to find out) -Do you have good airflow inside your case? Check ambient temperatures inside your case. Is the room, you use your computer in, warm? -It might be a bad temperature sensor. -Well, if all else fails, take the cooler off, clean the thermal compound off the heatsink surface and processor die with some alcohol and re-apply it to the heatsink only. Try to make the thermal grease coating is as close as possible to being paper thin. Use a plastic slip or, if you can be careful enough not to scratch the surface, a butter knife with a straight edge. Sweep the paste on the surface again and again with the straight edge until you've taken off as much as possible of the excess thermal paste without seeing the bare heatsink surface. The thinner the layer, the better, always.
first thanx my friend 4 ur interest ,, when i touch the heat sink, yes it burns me . I don't know if the CPU is a Northwood Core or a Prescott Core. but this temp isn't normal . It was about 36 to 40 . I think the airflow in the case is well . I leave the case opened for this reason . this problem is abnormal case which appear form a few days only . for now I don't Know the reason. thanx in advance
So you are saying the temperatures were normal once but now it gets hot? Or am I not understanding you correctly? -Are you sure your CPU is not under load? -If you are not running full load and the temps are so high as 70C you might just have your CPU going bad. I only say this because I myself don't know anything more on how to solve your issue. If you have gottent your processor recently (if it's covered by a warranty), I really recommend sending it in for replacement. -If the new one runs hot then it's beyond my knowledge on how to fix this issue. Just remember that under full load (%100 utilized) you can expect a Pentium 4 to run anywhere from 65 to 75C. I'm sorry that I cannot help further.
If you are having heat issues then return the stock heat sink on the cpu. Apply a thin layer of thermal paste and be sure it covers the whole cpu where the HSF is gonna be seated. Fans that push more cfm would be better no matter what HS you use. Pockets of air under the HS can cause temp problems, so be sure the HS is mounted properly.
yes it was normal and now i can't use the pc due to this situation . it goes hanged after few minutes . And it isn't at any load . just when i turned the power on the heatsink burns !!! may be it goes bad but the warranty period over now many thanx jaggy
