Hi, I have been using G4L and UDP Cast for a while and never had problems. Now i have a set of computers that came with a P5KPL-AM SE motherboard, with an integrated RealtekRTL8102E Family PCI- Fast Ethernet NIC. If i boot XP i can aquire a ip address via DHCP. The same computer then fails with: - UDP cast - G4L - Debian Intaller Tried 3 diferent routers already. What could i be missing here? Thanks
Welcome to HWF Are you able to provide a manual IP address when running these applications? Also take a look at the BIOS, if there's a setting that prevents the receiving of DHCP updates.
Because an Operating System relies on the driver of the network card, instead of the BIOS and its settings. So it could be possible that the BIOS doesn't accept DHCP updates, or the network card is not (properly) recognized by the other applications. That's why I also asked if it's possible to assign a manual address.
I see .... But i tried manual and it didn't work also. I will make some more tests and then i will post the results here again. Thanks for the help
Good luck BTW are you sure that the network card itself is recognised in the applications, like Debian?
Now i remember something important. This computers came with XP. As usual, we share 50% of the disk with Debian When installing Debian (Lenny) the DHCP failed and i installed it from the DVD because i needed to di this as fast as i could. Them, when i booted Debian it was everything working and i managed to update the packages installed from the disk and never thought of that again until now. So it works fine with XP and Debian ... but not ok in the situations i mentioned above?!
That means that the network card is probably not supported, or there are no drivers included. Do you have a network card that is known to work with the products that you're using? If so, put that network card in the new computer, connect the ethernet cable to that card, and then try to install the software again.
