Disabling on board graphics ?

Just wandering if I install a new AGP graphics card do I have to disable the on board graphics to fully utilise the new card, or is it dependent on my mother board ? Am currently using an old ati 9000 in my new build as my 6600 not working at the moment (long story) and it's performance in the new system is worse than the original HP machine I took it from which has only 768mb of ram and is in every respect inferior, yet the default graphic settings on every game I have tried so far are on the lowest setting on my new machine yet the HP defaults are considerably higher, any thoughts ???

i've tried to find out if your board auto disables on board grfx - to no avail, first you'll need to set grfx to use standard vga and usually a resolution of 640 x 480 and restart, to disable onboard grfx you need to go into the BIOS after post (beep) press <ctrl> + <S> and use arrow keys to select "integrated peripherals" then diable onboard grfx this should also gray out the amount of shared memory press <Esc> and save and exit the BIOS and turn off the system, and install you new grfx card but while playing inside the pc you could use an anti static strap ur just touch an exposed metal part of the pc case about every minuite, be careful with the retaining clip on the grfx card, you'll need to know how it works if you ever want to remove the grfx card good luck

EDIT: i think it is dependant on the mobo, my mobo auto disables onboard VGA, generally onboard VGA is crap it really drags down pc performance plus you can't remove and reinstert it to try to resolve problems
 
Yes, you have to. go into BIOS and disable it, then you can install your grfx card. or maybe

followed what you said but the integrated peripheral sub menu has the following options:
SIS OnChip IDE Device
SIS OnChip PCI Device
Onboard Super IO Device

and loads of other, what I consider to be irrelevant options (i.e. USB settings, IDE interface). The problem is I cant find anything about enabling/disabling the onboard graphics ??? Am I blind, or just an idiot?

don't disable that or your pc will not boot cos thats the onboard HDD controller let me have another look at your mobo manual i downloaded earlier

no your not an idiot, i am, i downloaded the RAID manual for your mobo

are you sure your mobo is model is: 760GXK8MC-S because as far as i can tell it doesn't exist

S - SATA
R - RAID
E - Ethernet

and the only mobo's i can find are:

760GXK8MC
760GXK8MC-RS
760GXK8MC-ERS
which one do yo have ?

the first one it had -S on the end in the product speification provided by the retailer (ebuyer). But it is the 760GXK8MC I think ur right and the -S stands for SATA as I have a SATA drive but they obviously don't call it that.
I have been reading the supplied manual and as far as I can tell it doesn't tell you in there, but worth a look anyway, thanks:)
 
Many boards may automatically disable the on-board video when an add-in card is detected. You may want to check the Integrated Peripherals menu in BIOS for toggling the on-board video. If it's not there, it probably automatically disables/enables itself as the situation requires.

Yeah that would explain why I cant see it then, but brings be back to the problem of the graphics of games being worse on this system than my crappy old hp system ?? despite the huge increase in processing and ram power??:confused:
