I recently dropped my laptop when it was on and it landed face down. i turned it off and back on and it turns on fine, but it wont load my desktop. my background will load and the curser, but it wont load my icons or start menu. i try going into task manager (ctrl+alt+delete) but that wont work either. if it sits for a couple minutes my screensaver works too. is my hard drive broken, or the motherboard? or is there something i can do? The laptop is a Toshiba Portege M100. Thankyou to anyone that can help me!
I'd say that Windows is broken (seems like you're using windows). I'd go for the following: 1. Go into safe mode (to see if windows loads that way) 2. Copy all data to a safe place (either from safe mode or pull out the HDD and hook it up to another machine) 3. Reinstall (or, which is less recommended by me - 'repair') windows from your legit copy 4. Work. It most probably is not a hardware problem (except for that the HDD might be damaged (and not even damaged, but has lost some data due to the impact) in some places, which did break windows). Overall, the laptop did survive this fall quite good.
i also can't get into safe mode. when i load safe mode all that comes up is the black screen and no icons.
damn from how high did u drop it it def sounds like something broke off or got damage on ur board but if ur up to it crack it open and find it and pick up a soldering iron and hit the forums back up
