i have one sata hd set as master and one ide hd connected to the primary ide channel (also set as master). each has an os on it. i'd obviously like to be able to choose which one i boot to. i can go into the bios and set one as the primary and then the computer boots to it but there has to be a better way. i want that screen which asks me which os to boot. in the "startup and recovery" window i only have one os listed. what can i do?
if you're using XP SP2 its dead easy, just go into recovery console & type: FIXMBR C: FIXBOOT C: BOOTCFG /rebuild then enter an identifier for each OS that should force XP to use a boot menu only 1 drive should be set to master (using standad IDE or SATA) and only 1 drive set to slave (on either the primery or secondary channels)
where do i type those commands? my ide hd is the only hd on the cable and is in fact the only ide hd on the board. the optical drive was previously in the primary socket but i moved it to the secondary socket and plugged the ide hd into the primary. was this incorrect?
type them into the recovery console (just boot from your XP CD, and when prompted enter the recovery console)
