My dvd drive won't recognise a disc when I put it in, I had this problem before and believed that the dvd drive was at fault so replaced it and now I am having the same problem with my new drive. It's driving me mad. Please help!!

Have you tried it in another computer, and does it not recognize all discs, or will some types recognized?

You need to be a little more specific I am afraid! What happens when you insert a DVD, and click on your DVD-ROM under my computer? Can you see the contents of CDs?

I have not tried it on another computer yet but I shall try that. It will not recognise any disc and when I open my computer to click on it manually to try and start it up nothing happens.

Also my security software is up to date.

Right click my computer > Properties > Hardware Tab > Device Manager

Look for your DVD-ROM drive and double click it. Does it show any error messages?

    hmm, how strange....

Right Click My computer > Manage > Down the left hand side you will see 'disk management' - click it

Does your DVD-ROM show up there?

I went to computer management, C: drive appears in top window stating healthy system. D: drive appears in next window down but doesn't have any details on health status.

    I asssume D:\ is your DVD-ROM?

Insert a CD/DVD into your DVD-ROM, and then go into Disk Management. Has anything changed?

Uninstalled some conflicting software and now dvd drive is operating correctly. I think maybe there was a civil war going on!

Anyway thanks Megamaced and Addis for the support.

    Good news :good:

For our information, what software was conflicting with your DVD-ROM?

I removed Clone DVD2 and it started to work ok. Maybe this was causing problems with my Dell media experience. Also I have DVD region+css free which is software for X-oom movies on PSP, the jury is still out on whether this makes my PC unhappy.
