DVD+R Vs. DVD-R

Can someone please tell me the difference between DVD+R and DVD-R disc's.

A mate of mine told me that it is something to do with what type of DVD drive you have but I know that mine is compatible with both so what exactly is the difference other than the price?

Some DVD players only recognise one type (either DVD+R or DVD-R) but some newer DVD players will recognise both, most modern DVD 'burners' available for PC's will burn both DVD+R and DVD-R.It's the way the data is written to the disc.
