DX10 cards to smoke my crap

My 7950 GX2 is on the way and its past worring about now but will low end DX10 cards out perform the 7950 gx2 or will it still be somwhat Formidable.
 
Just because the card is DX10 doesn't mean it will smoke your card. Your card is one of the fastest consumer graphics cards available, and being DX10 ready doesn't make a card any faster.
 
right i get that but they'll probably be a 8 seriers right or just way better arcitecture, or am i wrong about that
 
Your guess is as good as mine. On paper, DX10 is a major change for DirectX. A GeForce 6200 is DX9 capable, but I'd rather have an FX 5900 that's just DX8.

The general progression is that the high-end card (7900GTX) is going to be about the same performance level as the mid-range card of the next generation.

Compare the 7600GT and the 6800Ultra, and you'll see what I mean.
 
right, i guess thats not so bad then, maybe prices will shoot down and i can go quad sli. guess i'll see
 
Yeah like others have said you're good. You'll probably never see a huge increase in lowend cards from generation to generation. They're pretty much guarenteed to be faster, but on faster than the cards they're aiming to replace, like the 6200 replacing the 5200 or the X300 replacing the 9200 etc. Certain DX 10 games might actually run worse on highend DX 10 cards then on your 7950GX2 as they're got all the fancy DX 10 bells and whistles enabled and could really hurt performance while a DX 9 card doesn't have to deal with any of these things. Then again we have no way of knowing as the cards and games aren't out. But I think it's safe to say that, save for a couple games, you're GX2 will last you till at least untill winter 2008 before you see that it's not working out so well.

I agree with Exfo on that. I broke down and bought the GX2. Since future games will incorporate more "physic effect" settings for high-end users...you can always SLI or go after a Physix Card or if you're loaded...do all the above and let me know how that turns out. Besides, DX10 cards will calculate more of the "effects" aspect of current and new games that enable it.
 
yeah i'm feeling pretty good about it, but another question will DX9 cards be able to do DX10 specific functions.

If your question is "will DX10 games be backward compatible" which I believe is what you're getting at, then I say yes. That would be very ignorant of game companies to not make games compatible with DX9. As for all the new "bling" that DX10 is going to offer, no DX9 cards won't be able to give you that.
