I was expecting big things from the distro that merged the power of Debian with the eye candy of Enlightenment 17. Unfortunately my short test of elive turned out to be very frustrating and troublesome. The eyecandy became more of a hinderence then a benefit. The ELpanel, whilst pretty, is actually rather slow and tedious to use. The default e17 theme is unpractical for any real work. E17 'segfaulted' within 10 minutes of use. The installation was very messy, and I don't even want to expand on that. The major problem was with the old ATi Rage Pro Integrated graphics within the computer I was testing elive on. I had to use the VESA driver due to problems I won't go into. I installed the GPL ATi driver (which supports the old Rage cards) but X failed after that. That was the end of my testing. I think the next time I try out e17, it'll be with a server install of ubuntu and e17 source code from CVS
