    hi.
i was downloading something last night from irc and since it was gonna take a couple hours i left my computer on and turn on hibernate. but when i woke up my onboard ethernet (realtek) is not working anymore. so i tried my connection with my laptop and everything is fine.
is my onboard ethernet dead? cause my ethernet led usually is on even when my pc is off.

when your computer goes into hibernating mode, it effectively sends all the components in your computer to sleep except the main components.

this is why your ethernet adapter isn't working, if computers could run in hiberneting mode (ie: v.quiet) whilst internet adapaters were on i wouldn't have spent so much on a silent case and silent fans e.t.c

i leave my pc on 24 / 7 subsequently i have to sleep with it being on, so it has 2 be as quiet as possible.

To leave downloads on sucessfully you need to goto your power settings:

right click on your desktop, click on properties > click on the screensaver tab > down the bottom right is a button called "power" > click on that. now turn all devices such as hard drives e.t.c so that they NEVER goto sleep.

once these devices goto sleep you cannot write / read or use them.

the only thing that turns them back on is some sort of activation ie: touch of keyboard or mouse.

    hope this helps :)

sorry i didn't realise that your ethernet has actually stopped working, just ran a quick search on your error, what it seems to be is a hardware problem, i suggest moving your Ethernet card to another PCI slot.. your PCI slot maybe damaged

if that doesnt work, replace your ethernet card.

yeah that happened to me to...i have no idea why...i think its something from windows resuming from hibernate while running processes that actually do something or create/save files.

haha same reason too-downloading "important files" wink. i just left k-lite running all nite and put my pc in hibernate. my sound didnt work either. i had to reinstall windows as well. then presto it works. hmm, sounds like ms is at fault yet again.
