I have an EVGA 132-BL-E758 board, featuring the onboard X58/ICH10R chipset. I have six Velociraptor 300GB drives plugged into it with RAID5.
Every day or two, I'll catch the RAID rebuilding/degraded. It will identify a drive going bad, and I'll replace it. Of the 6 drives, I've replaced all of them atleast once and many of them as much as 3-4 times. It will rebuild, show healthy for a day or two and then drop one of them again.
The drives I remove all appear to be good. I run Western Digital's diagnostics on them. I even put them in other machines and do clean installs. Never have I had a problem with them.
This leads me to believe that there's something wrong with the RAID controller on board.
I updated the BIOS to the newest (02/04/2010). It didn't seem to effect it. I've ensured I have both the newest version of the RAID drivers for Windows and also the newest version of the Intel Matrix Storage Console.
What's my next step? Put another RAID card in, perhaps a dedicated 3ware unit, and rebuild to that? This is a production level server that runs our accounting system, so I need something reliable.
Thanks for your help!
