external dvd drive

    ok i was looking at buying a external dvd drive seeing as i dont have any more ide spots to add internal also i found what i think is a good buy

    i can find a pic for it but this is what i know

    dvd+r/rw dual layer
    and one big thing on it is a a/v recording (realtime recording)
    and its only 80USD

    if anyone tthinks this is bad buy tell me please becuase im 15 so not much $$$ and would like to get all i can buy with the money i got

    i think you mean DVD +R/RW, DVD-R/RW, dual layer RW drives & discs are not yet available (i think) this drive is about $80 USD (well $84.2498 USD) and that drive is DVD-RAM and lightscribe, but it would be better if you had USB2, but will work with USB1.1 (just slower)

    dvd RAM?? i dont know what that is an the one im buying is a a store so no shiping and i dont think im ever gona use lightscribe my friend has it and he only used it once i might get lightscrabe if they somehow com out wih color

    DVD-RAM version 2.0 can hold 9.4Gb of info although the discs are a bit more expensive
    check this

    o that isnt that much more i wo9uld rather same a few $$ and just buy more normal dvds

    i looked at the wiki and they are like floppies i did that with a cd rw b4 it was kinda cool but with only 700mb it wasnt that usefull

    well with a DVD+ r /DL, DVD-r / DL, you will be able to write 8.5Gb

    well i got a drive its a combo +r +rw -r -rw and dl but cant et driver working

    is it a DVD-ROM / CD - , +r / RW or a DVD +, - r / RW, CDr /RW ?
    what does it say on the box ?

    external +- rw drive and it supports dl and alll types of cds

    the model is lite on ez dub SOHW-1673SU35

    i can´t find anything on that drive (except this)

    what OS ?

    if XP, what is displayed in My Computer (obviously new drive)

    i this it, if it is it requires Win2k or XP,
    just over half way down seccopage (if it doesn say 98 then assume it won´t work in 98)

    this is the page you had a diffrent model this on if u click on the downloads page says something about win98 on the driver part it says something like this u dont need to dl drives for 2k/xp becuase it plug and play but it dosent tell u how to install driver

    maybe u can dl drivers and tell me what to do

    download this, then extract it (with winzip) then wherever you extracted it to (C:\1) use explorer and navigate to (C:\1) and double click ¨cy_ni9X.exe¨ and it will install automatically, then reboot, thats it, done.

    when i clck it a hourglass comeup for just a second then nothing happenes it it supposed to open anything i rebooted and the drive is still not showing

    try it another way then, dbl click ¨My Computer¨ then ¨Control Panel¨ then ¨Add Hardware¨ (i think it´s add hardware) go through wizard and select ¨Advanced¨ and just browse to folder where you extracted the zip file.

    that didnt work but i got it to work with the ubuntu live cd and im installing it now so its solved i think
