I'm learning about RAID and toying with configuring a pair of hard drives for data storage. I want to pair 2 (3tb) hard drives in an external enclosure as a start and set-up the pair for RAID-1 to mirror the data. My question is if I get a dual-bay enclosure and the 2 drives, will that be enough to run it off my computer as an external function, or will I need additional hardware or firmware to make it run correctly? Basically, will it run correctly out of the box just like you would USB plug in an independent external hard drive?
