I am rebuilding a dell dimension 2400 for my niece to use. I am having trouble with the cpu fan. It does not com on when the cpu gets hot. I have tested the fan with a 9v battery and the fan does spin. computer does boot up just except for there is a fan error at the beginning and I can press F1 and everything boots up just fine. Could it be the fan header on the motherboard itself.

Hi, I would just try replacing the fan see if that helps, if no joy it's most likely faulty cpu fan header, what you are going to have to do is get a molex to fan connector to keep your cpu fan spinning while the system is powered.

Thanks for the advice. I'm pretty sure the fan itself still works so I'm gonna go ahead and get the molex to fan connecter. I didn't want to do that only because if the fan does go there won't be any warning , but I guess you do you have to do. Again, thankyou very much. I will post once I try the molex to fan connecter.:chk:

hi i forgot to mention that if you've got a spare fan header use that instead of molex to fan connector.
