I got an 80gig SATA hard drive, but it keeps crashing. I am able to install windows, but when i start installing programs, the screen goes black and then restarts. Then XP won't boot up anymore, i get an error screen that says: Windows/system/config (sumthing like that). I've tried installing a PATA hard drive and it works (30gig is way too small for me). Could it be the hard drive or the way i set it up? If it's the setup, please give me instructions on how to set it up.

    thx a lot

Does the drive stop spinning when it crashes?

No it doesn't, actually, u can still hear it.
BTW, it is still possible to install windows after it crashes, but it crashes again.

    thanx for the reply!

My power supply is a "Yum-Cha" power supply. it is a Usicase 400w power supply. It came with my case and i haven't bothered to replace it. hope this is enough.

You probably want to look a changing that PSU - but I don't think it's responsible for your SATA problem.

I would point my finger at your system drivers. Boot from your SATA drive into Windows (if you can) and go to Gigabyte's website. I suggest you download all the updated drivers for your motherboard - especially Southbridge drivers, SATA controllers and IDE controllers

Chipset drivers normally include drivers for SATA, IDE etc

You will have to look on your manufacturer's website

Download the latest chipset drivers here

Simply double click on this file once it's downloaded, and it will install automatically.
