hiya HWF gods, just installed and updated Fedora core 3 but on updating i got all the updates except curl and curl-devel, got the same error message for both of them: curl-devel 7.12.3-6.fc3 requires libidn-devel i just selected ignore them, was that the right thing to do ?
Well first of all FC3 is a very old distribution. Anyway, you've chosen to ignore a package dependency, so curl won't work. (if I read you right) Curl is a program that is used by other programs to fetch files networks. So if curl doesnt work then some other applications will also not work unless they can use something like wget. Try to find the package that is missing.
i've igrored the packeges "curl & curl-devel" cos when i tried updating them both i got the error message: curl-devel 7.12.3-6.fc3 requires libidn-devel, to me that means i need "libidn-devel" how or where do i get it ?
You'll need to use the FC3 package manager. As root try doing Code: yum libidn-devel There may be a graphical tool for doing this.
It sounds like your install disc is bad, or possibly your ROM drive. Try doing a media check in the initial phase of the installer. P.S. - If you're going to run FC, at least run FC5.
