Hi. I'm about to start my first ever full build, as a favour for a mate. He's on a tight budget so im building it out of bits and bobs i've got left over from the numerous upgrades Ive carried out on my rig and some other cheap and cheerful parts. Basically, I just want to make sure theres no conflicts in the hardware I've got to hand. Can anyone see any issues?


-AMD athlon 64 4000 san diego single core

-asus ASN-SLi SE socket 939 Motherboard

-200 GB Samsung Spinpoint HD200HJ, SATA II, 7200 rpm, 8MB Cache, 8.9 ms, NCQ

-Sparkle GeForce® 7800GT, (256 MB) PCI Express Graphic Card

-2GB DDR333 PC2700 2 X 1GB MEMORY

-LG 18x GSA-H66NBAL DVD±R, 10x DVD±DL, DVD + RW x8/-RW x6, DVD-RAM x12, SATA,

-600W EZ-Cool Silent SLi pPFC Power Supply PCI-E + SATA AMD & P4 Ready 12cm Silent Fan ATX12v Ready

-Coolermaster Hyper 212 Universal CPU Cooler Copper 4 Heat Pipes


Also, would this give a good all round performance? He's only after a rig that he can use to browse and play the odd game on. Thanks for any help in advance.
 
I checked it over there isn't any problems with it but the 7800GT is out of date lol wot kind of odd games does your mate play? I bet CSS plays on that card right? seems to play on any card :chk:

Also what case your gonna put this in?
 
Thanks for the reply. The 7800 is just a place holder to be honest. It was just lying around and I thought it would do for now as he wants to keep the price down. If he wants to upgade at a later date its up to him. With respect to the case I was planning on buying a Jeantech neo ATX case. Its no frills but again, all in keeping the price low. Do you forsee a problem with this?
 
Never used the case before so can't really say but looking at the specs pf the case it seems to have everything in it that you need.
 
Thanks again. Ive been thinking about the GPU. I might try to convince him to spend a little more money for a better card. Anyway, I will make a start on it this weekend. Its a bit a bit of a step up from installing CPU's and SLI linking graphic cards but im looking forward to it. Thanks again.
 
Hey man what is your budget (how much money do you want to spend on it all?)

1. First of all, intel processors are way better, buy a socket 775 motherboard, you will be either able to save money or pay the same amount for a faster pc, then get the highest core2duo you can afford

2. Also DDR2 is way cheaper than DDR, 2GB of DDR2-800 can only cost you like 70 bucks, and it has allot better performance, the motherboard needs to take ddr2 also, but almost every one now does.

3. I would suggest buying a power supply from one of these brands
-Enermax (except for the Liberty series---high failure rate)
-Antec
-Corsair
-Fortron (FSP Group brand)
-Hiper (easy to get ahold of in the UK)
-OCZ
-PC Power & Cooling (for those who want the best money can buy)
-Seasonic (very quite)
-Silverstone
-Sparkle (FSP Group brand)
-Thermaltake Purepower (for Socket A/Northwood P4s) or Toughpower (A64, Prescott, Core2)
-Ultra (except X-Connect)
-XClio (rebadged Channelwell, like some Antec units)
-Zippy/Emacs

If you don't get a well known brand power supply, there is a very high chance of the power supply
*Lasting 2 weeks
*when it does fail, it may cause a surge, destroying all your other brand new parts
