format

    I did a search but could not find what I was looking for.

    Here is what I am facing.
    Dell dimension 3000, bought for the teens 6 months ago. It is just not working with the downloaded problems. I would like to format C drive and start over.

    Basic computer.

    Dell Demension 3000 *I have all the CD's that came with it.
    Windows Xp
    Celeron 2.40
    C Drive
    D drive CD-rom
    E Drive CD-RW
    ***NO FLOPPY***

    I have downloaded different boot disks, but since I have no floppy I have put them on CD. * different computer.

    HOW do you format C drive?

    I can change the BIOS boot sequence to load cd first and not c drive,but I still can not figure out how to type in format C and clean it out, like you would with a floppy.

    This should be easy............................ but.

    You don't need to format your HDD, the Windows installer will do it for you.

    hi im having major troubles here (boo hoo) ive bought a laptop from ebay....not always the best idea i know, and didnt realise it didnt have a cd rom or floppy drive with it ..(my own stupid fault for not reading the description properly or looking at what they had omitted..i know!) anyway, i purchased an external cd rom which the laptop wont recognise, as the drivers are on floppy, when i plug it in i keep getting the message that i have exceeded the current limits of its hub port, i have downloaded windows xp but cannot open it as im not sure which programme i need to do it in(im hoping the drivers will be on there....any ideas? please help me!!! *sniff sniff

    It sounds to me like you have an external cdrom that is powered by a USB cable, meaning that the data transmission and the power source for the cd_rom is on the same cable. Is this correct? This is convenient however your computer may not have the proper current rating to output the necessary power to run the cd-rom.

    You should return the cd rom you have and replace it with one that is self-powered. i.e. has a wall plug also. I think this will solve your problem. I checked out some extrernal cd/dvd burners that are self-powered and this seems to be the best deal.
