To all: I'm in the process of installing my new hard drive, however i wish to know the following; once i have installed the hard drive do i simply power-up with the OS disk in my CD-Drive and follow the instructions? I have had to burn my driver files to disk as i don't posses the original, therefore will i be prompted by XP to install them if it cannot locate the specific drivers upon installation? Cheers Olly
Ok basically what will happen is: (assuming your new disk is the only one in the pc and its set to master) You'll boot up with the OS CD in, and it will say "Press any key to boot from CD". Do so. Windows Setup will start. If your hard disk is SATA, you may need the drivers that came with the Hard Disk to install first, under "F6 -->Install 3rd Party Drivers". What hard disk is it? You won't install any drivers until XP has finished installing, and you can use the system. Once it boots up and you can access your PC again, then you can use the Cd you made with the drivers to install the necessary data.
hi m8 make sure that sure cd rom drive is the first in your boot sequence as floppy is usually defualt. to do this press delete when u start your pc until bios comes up then have a look thru the menus until you find the boot sequence and make cd the 1st device then save and exit and boot of cd fine hope this helps Dave :good:
For Windows NT/2000/XP, you can boot off the CD and install the OS. For Windows 95/98/ME, you'll need a Windows boot floppy and will have to use FDISK or other partitioning program to format the hard drive. The only thing you might need to have on a floppy would be if you're installing WinNT/2k/XP and have a storage controller that the OS can't see and your hard drive is on that controller. Otherwise, it'll install the OS and install drivers for the devices it can. You'll have to check device manager after the OS install is completed to see if there's anything not installed.
