Games lag when save

Whenever im playing games on my comp and I save my game the game lags. After the save I get major lag spikes that will eventually die out the more I play the game but sure enough another save comes around and im back where I started. I find that the more demanding games I play the bigger the lag spikes. I have been told to defrag and to free up space on hard drive and have done both with no avail. Im almost sure its because of my processor but I want to here others opinions before im 100% sure thx.

What sort of games are you playing here? I have 3 machines, one is a gaming Pc mostly. And i did have a similar problem a few months back. Although I saved what needed to be kept and reformated it, and now its working great. If you have been downloading alot or maybe accessing sites etc, God knows what could be on your machine.
If it is a very high spec game it could be your graphics card but from what i see it seems okay. Is it an old computer?

im playin doom 3 and quake 4 and halo(the biggest save because it has so many checkpoints) and about how old my comp is, my comps parts are different ages. My vid card is 4 months old. My mobo and processor is 1 1/2 years old. My Ram is 2 sticks of 512 one is 3 months old and the other is about a year old and the power supply is about 2 1/2 years old.
