Giving in to the Linux charm?

Right so, after much deliberation (with myself mainly...I think the wife has called the men in white coats) I have decided to take the plunge.
God, it nearly sounds as bad as Windows annonymous..... :D
My name is SabaShuali and I am a windows user........:confused:

Anyway, my best mate is a Debian master but he suggested to start from Unbuntu which might make the introduction to Linux somewhat more welcoming...

Downloaded the latest and on Monday once I installed an extra HDD in the beast, I will give it a go. Promiss to make the next post in this section from the Unbuntu installation....

Hopefully, it should not be too much hard work.
However, please feel free to leave any recomendations and/or tips

Ubuntu is easy to use and very straightforward to install and administrate, even to a non UNIX user. It does have some things about it I dislike, but overall a very good distro. Ubuntu comes with the Gnome desktop by default. Gnome is considered by many to be extremely user-friendly, but I personally prefer KDE which is infinitely more configurable. If customization is not something you're interested in, stick with Ubuntu. If You want to run KDE though, check out Kubuntu, which is a variation of Ubuntu that uses the KDE desktop by default instead of Gnome. Either way you go, you can easily install any number of alternate user interfaces for Linux with only a few clicks.
