Graphics Card is Consuming Heavy Power

I have ATI Radeon-9800 Pro -128MB Graphics card with intel P4-2.8 HT processor, Intel 865 GBF motherboard, Creative 5.1 Sound Card, Samsung 40GB HDD, Sony Combo Drive, 512 MB ram. I have 230V Frontech SMPS and a 600VA Luminous UPS.
My problem is that I have tried many UPS but no UPS can hold my computer while running. When power go my computer restarts and when it starts booting it restarts again and again and again..... Means my computer is consuming heavy power. When I removes graphics card it runs fine but using graphics card UPS is a failure.
If u know what is the problem and what hardware should I upgrade then please help me. God will bless u.
 
Be careful, I fried two 9800's by using a bad psu. Stop using the card immediately until you get a better namebrand psu with at least 350-400 watts.
 
I have 300Wt PSU. I am afraid that If I install a higher power PSU than required then it will damage my motherboard.
 
no, it wont, you need more power to give the graphics card what it needs, you wont damage the motherboard by putting a higher power PSU

OK. I will buy a 400Wt PSU. Will it solve my problem of restarting. Cause UPS can't hold the system.A small fluctuation is enough to restart my computer.
 
I think you've got a few misconceptions here about how the juice flows.

The UPS is external and is there so you don't get stuck with a computer that's shut down or rebooting after a loss of power from the electrical lines (like when the power to the house goes out). The power supply inside the computer converts the 120V line into the various voltages needed, although the system is primarily a 12V system if that means something to you.

Matt555 already linked my thoughts on the power supply, but I can say that, given the details you've given us, it's likely that the power supply is the culprit here. IF the problem is external, it sounds like the circuit your computer is hooked up to is loaded. But since you've not mentioned anything about it tripping a breaker, this points squarely to the power supply.

If I were you, I would invest in a good, high-wattage power supply. Cost-wise, you're looking in the neighborhood of $80-100 there, but it'll be money well spent. Will a 500W power supply consume 500W with your system? No. It will provide the necessary power for your system, but is capable (at least with a good unit) of supplying that amount. It will not put out more power than it needs to. And no, you won't fry anything because it's a larger unit.
 
Thanks for guiding me guys. I will buy a 500Wt Powersafe PSU. Now I know that it is necessary for my graphics card. Hope it will solve all my problems. And once again thank you all.
