Ok, first of all, I'm pretty sure this thread fits best in the Storage forum but if it should be in the Windows forum please don't flame me.

Alright, now to the good stuff. I have a jack-of-all-trades server running Windows Server 2003 R2. One of it's trades is a file server. The system is installed on 3 40 GB IDE hard drives (I know, I know, not a good setup, but it was available, aka free, so I went with it initially). If that isn't bad enough I decided to make all the disks dynamic so I could have a system partition on about 10 GB of one drive and then a span of the rest of the drives for file storage. Now I am ready to upgrade the system, and I have decided on a single large hard drive setup (500 GB, and I decided true hardware RAID was cost prohibitive so I will do weekly incremental backups of vital data) and a SATA card.

So here is my question: How can I migrate all of my data (a full image of the disk) to my new hard drive on my new SATA controller? I am kind of at a loss. I can't use something like Ghost (which I have access to) because the disks are dynamic. I may be able shoehorn the 500 GB into the case by sacrificing the CD drive (temporarily before I remove the 40's) but even then I don't know how to migrate the data.

    All help appreciated, thanks.

If you can set up the new drive on a USB port thenit is possible to fully migrate using Acronis True Image. I did it this way going from 60Gig internal EIDE to 250 in a Rocketfish USB enclosure. Data that is spanned across the drives can be moved as a separate activity.
