i have got two hard drives in my computers...one in each computer...120gb and 80gb...both running windows xp..in bios they detect as the normal size they are....but in windows they are 112gb adn 72gb respectively....does windows xp take 8gb for something....i have removed partitions and formatted them both....what can i do to get my 8gb back?....where has it gone?...

The hard drive manufacturer's use 1000MB to equal 1GB. Windows uses 1024MB=1GB, which is the true way of determining size. Add that up over that many GB, and you're going to have a major discrepancy. Windows XP should take about 1.5-2GB for the OS and swap file.
Your 8GB isn't gone. It's a matter of the hard drive companies definition vs the binary definition of a GB. There's nothing you can do about it.
