Hardware disk failure?

    I have just upgraded to windows xp service pack 2 and now i get a black screen with "hard disk failure" message???

    I have a Dell Optiplex sx260

    Can someone help me?

    I think it has nothing to do with hardware functions. Your mobo might be getting confused with the new update. SP2 is very buggy. If might have done something to the formating of the drive when it installed. My advice would be to find your recovery disk and reinstall Windows XP and see if it alows you to. If that dose not work my best guess is that it good freided when you installed SP2. You just might have to get a new h-drive.

    Try booting in safe mode and uninstall SP2.

    whats your proceesor? if it is intel prescott then unfrtunately you need to download a fix before you download service pack 2

    just wondering can you explain more why he would need to download a fix before he updated to SP2

    Jesus, I think I reinstalled XP about 10 times before something tweaked, and I looked on the net.

    microsoft getting sp2 out before making sure it is compatible with every processor, the worst thing is the intel prescott processor is very common and has been a big headache for a lot of novice computer users

    all i can say is I wish I'd gone for an Athlon 64...

    a lesson learned too late...

    any one want a used prescott?! All I ask is a 4000+ or the cash equivalent.

    You actually wanna' trade a 4000+ for your 2.8ghz Prescott ?
