Help finding motherboard replacement.

Hi I have a Gateway 500sand it is almost 3 years old, I just bought an Ati Radeon X1600 Pro 256mb AGP and it can run at either 4X or 8X. The problem is that my motherboard only supports 4X and I want it to run in full 8X. I dont wanna buy any new hardware like the processor or the memory and I was thinking if somebody could help me to find a motherboard that can support AGP 8X, as mentioned before, withouth changing the processor or memory. This is my configuration:

Download [google]CPU-Z[/google] and find out what core and socket the CPU uses. I'm pretty sure of what the socket is, but I'd like to make sure before recommending anything.

You just need a socket 478 board. Pretty well all support DDR and AGP 8x.

To be honest you are gonna find it tough to find a new one. They seem to be getting more rare everyday.

Im persuming you have a micro ATX setup at the moment?

I found this, it only supports DDR2700 though so its not really an option but I had to post it anyway! Ive had a look to see if a BIOS update will make it support DDR266 but it doesnt.

If your case is ATX (and not mATX) this is a cheap one...

This has the Intel Sprindale too. I couldnt say its better than the VIA and SiS chips but it was marketed that way a few years back.

I personally would go for the Asrock mATX board or the Asus ATX board, even though they dont have the intel chipset. All have Dual DDR which is a bonus. I dont suppose SATA is an issue but they all support it plus the first Asus one has RAID too.
 
Yup. While some people don't like Via chipsets, I've never had one give me any trouble and I've used 20+ different motherboards.

One thing to keep in mind is that you will need to reinstall Windows for best results, given that the chipset will not be the same as what you currently have.
