Hey rob9804, welcome to hardwareforums.com. Before we help with your situation, please let me bring up a few points. The primary thing is that your post looks as though your Caps Lock key is malfunctioning. I understand that you're upset, but it looks like you're screaming at everyone, which is considered very bad form. Less imporantly, you posted your issue in the "Drivers" section of the forum, when this is clearly an issue for either the "Windows" section or the "Security" section. You may not have been sure of which forum to post in, which is OK. But being clear and precise in every way possible will certainly help us to help you. Also, it'll help others who come along after you who might have similar problems. Thanks. Alright, down to the nitty-gritty. As much as I'd like to give you some elegant solution to pull your system from the mire, I'm afraid it's not quite so simple. It appears that your system is likely beyond any reasonable means of repair. There are some things you can try, but this situation will likely end up with a complete reformat/reinstall. First off I'd recommend trying Trend Micro's Housecall, an online virus-scanner. It often finds & removes viruses which Norton misses, so it's worth a shot. Next, I'd completely replace Norton Antivirus with a better antivirus solution, such as the free AVG. It'll do the job better than NAV, and at no cost. But, let me reiterate my first point. Due to the fact that a number of Windows files are corrupted and/or infected, your only likely recourse for a clean solution is to backup any critical data and reinstall your system from scratch. Or, if your computer was manufactured, you should use the OEM "Recovery Disc" which came with your PC after backing up. I wish I had better news for you, but there's no point in beating around the bush. For more tips about security, check out our FAQ.
rob9804 .... at last somebody i can sort of offer assistance to i have been there and had that done to me ! ok so my solution is drastic but i had exactly the same problem having gotten hold of an original win 98 (mt current o.s.) i formatted both of my hard drives & re-installed everything again yes it's a pain in the backside but it did dispose of the nasty little :swear: that cocked everything up !try that popular auction site (you know the one with an E ) if you don't have the original o.s. disc hang around for a cheap 1 don't be tempted to part with mega money Yes norton is not the best around also use ad aware , avg & spyware blaster all freebies cause i'm tight & as we speak have had no problems as of yet ! A mate warned me that a dodgy e-mail was being sent in the form of an e- card , but i got nobbled by an un-known e-mail , didn't realise and it got me ! hope this helps some ! :good:
