Ok, this an emergency, I went into c:\WINDOWS and went on regscan. I don't really now why, I guess I gues I thought it would scan my registry for errors or something. However, a load bar came up, got so far, then a pop-up error message came up saying something like "Problem accessing registry, windows can fix the regirstry for you, and restart the computer." I clicked "OK" then, when it re-booted, the log in screen came up. The background had changed and a user I had deleted many months ago was there! I thought "Ohhhhh no, what've I done." Then when I come back on, I have an old windows theme, different sounds, most programs are telling me it's the first time that they are being run, limewire doesn't work because it says I need to download the latest version of JAVA, when I press ctrl-alt-del there are loads of programs that are running, that only used to run a ver ylong time ago. In my system tray there is only 1 icon, and there usually is 17. I don't appear to have lost any files though, so far. Many things are different though..... I need help..... ANY suggests I want. Please help!!! Thanks,

    Josh

P.S. I am running windows ME

You've been the victim of System Restore, a "feature" of both ME and XP. In my experience, it has done much more harm than good, even reviving long removed viruses. It eats up resources, and causes stability problems. I recommend you turn off system restore and try to get your system back to a usable state.

Try restoring the most recent restore point. After that do an AV check and turn it off.

Ok, well thanx for the advice. I just re-installed loads of stuff and such, it's not too bad now. Only problem is loads of spyware, and I mean LOADS I USED to have is back...... Plus I have some viruses zonearalm security suite can't even rename, romove OR delete. Some of the spyware can't be removed because it's in use, all the most of it's gone. Also, when I try to start windows media player now, it says "An internal application error has occured." Any ideas what to do there? Thanks,

    Josh
