Help On Upgrade !!!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone,i am just about to upgrade with a new GPU and more RAM,is it best if i install them seperatly or can i do them both at the same time,if it is best to do them one at a time ,which one is best to be installed first,appreciate any help on this matter...........CHEERS WEG !!!!!!!!!!:O
 
your fine to do both together, but, be very careful about choose the RAM you buy, as the speed is not that important, but the timings are, you may find it easier to just replace your existing RAM because matching existing RAM to new RAM can be v v difficult unless you want me to try & explain it, do you ?

personally i only buy Corsair VS
 
DONKEY42,thanks for the info just installed and all is OK.........Whilst i am on line,just a quick question,now that i have installed the GPU,do i have to disable the on-board graphics,if so,how do i do this.....Cheers WEG.........

yes, i would, some posh motherboard may auto disable onboard grx, but, to manually disable it just enter the BIOS, by pressing (usually <Del>) and navigate to something like "Integrated Peripherals" and look around for something like "Onboard VGA" or "onboard grfx" and select disable now save and exit the BIOS (usually <F10>) and it's disabled
 
by email Hi DONK,once again i appreciate the advise taken and used last week about my upgrade,just to re-cap,upgraded RAM from 256MB to 1.5GIG corsair PC3200,and from onboard grphics to GeForce8600GT 256MB PCI-XPRESS,the changes were instant,great graphics//photos/colors/ETC..... Then i started to play some Flight sim and Train sim (MACKOY ///BVE) and everything seemed to be in slow motion and with a couple of seconds dely the fram rates droped to below 5FPS,before the upgrade i was getting around 17--20.Do you have any suggestions,PS,my PSU is only 300 WATTS,on the 8600GT box it suggests a minimum of 350--400 Watts, if its not the PSU, what could be causing the problem..Cheers WEG..............

well, it looks like you've answered your own question there

it is very important to buy a decent PSU, personally, i have an Antec TP Trio 550W (which i highly recommend) however, there is a list of decent brand PSUs in Big Bs PSU Sticky & t5heres also a list of crap PSUs

wattage doesn't mean anything, as i've heard a decent 350W PSU can power more stuff than a crap / generic PSU

usually if a PSU comes free with a case is generic / crap, PSUs supply power on rails, so, my PSU produced 52amps on 3 12V rails, so, you need to look at each voltage and see how many rails it supply's power on, basically, the more rails the better i think you can get a 1000W that supply's power on 4 rails, this PSU is obviously an Antec TP Quattro
