I have a External sony DVDRW (DRX-500ulx) and the drive inside has stopped reading disc's so I would like to replace the Drive ( put new drive into external Box) , I have take the old drive out the Case (box) and seems a Standard size and normal IDE and power connectors , however my old drive is x4 speed and the new drives are x16 speed so don't know how this would affect the machine ( IF AT ALL ) ,
also if it will work ok plugged into the Old external Box ( sony box) .
so any info or help you have would be great .
hanks for help Mark

The new drive should work fine in the old casing, as long as the case uses USB2.0 you shouldn't have any problems. A USB 1.1 connection is a lot slower and you might have to reduce your writing speed.

Thanks for that Info Mate , however someone else told me that the Old External Box has a Older chipset on it and Might not work Properly , or at same speed ,
several people Told me No problem as is USB2 and anyway slower , some one else mentioned this chipset Thing .
Let me Know if you know anything about it
Thanks Mark
