I am having a rather strange issue with my Asus P5K-Deluxe motherboard. It started suddenly after plugging a USB device (An average TV satellite decoder in order to upgrade its firmware). After this no USB ports would work even though Windows is able to see the controllers and Hubs normally in device manager.

After struggling with the problem for a while (Windows drivers reinstallations, BIOS update, etc..) I thought It could have something to do with a short-circuit when I did the interface with the mentioned device, as I have seen something similar in a hardware forum. So, although the device wasn´t plugged any more, I did cut an USB cable and tried quick shorts-circuits. When I did the short between a 5v (Red cable) and a Data – (White cable), on a specific port, all those USB ports associated with the same given controller started to work normally, while the short remained that is.

I am talking about both the BIOS or Windows OS being able to detect a USB device (which I think rules out any variable in Windows environment alone).

Any idea about what could be the cause of it?
