I've just brought a Maxtor Plus 9 80gb SATA Hard Drive to go with my other Maxtor Hard drive.

I've connected the Serial Lead to the Drive and then to the spare port on the Mother Board. The power is connected and there are no faults in any of the leads.

The problem is, when windows is started up, Maxtor said BIOS should show, telling you installation has been successful. Well nothing happens and the drive remains undetected by the computer.

Any advise on getting it to work or do you think it's broken?

    Thanks for the help :)

you need to format it, go to Control Panel > Computer Management > Disk Management

you should see a new unformated drive, simply format it.

I assume you are using windows xp?

I don't see a un/formated drive there, is it detected doing startup? is your other hard drive a SATA? also have you installed the [google]SATA drivers[/google]?

Yeah, you'll need to have the SATA controller drivers installed for the SATA drive to be seen.

My other Drive is a Maxtor SATA drive so i'm assuming my computer already has the drivers. I'm not sure. Do you have the specific drivers i should try and install to see if that works?
Thanks for your help so far

    Problem solved.

I pressed F2 when the system was starting up and go to the system setup or something. Turned out the drive was set to "off"

Turned it on and now everything works just fine.

Thanks for all your help anyway. :)
