    Hello,

Id be greatful if someone could offer me a few pointers on setting up my pcs at home. Ive found myself getting pretty confused and going around in circles: tbh Im not really sure what Im trying to achieve anymore!

I have 2 laptops both with wireless adapters and a wireless router. They both connect fine to the router, and connect to www through it.

What I want to do is:
    1. share files between the computers
    2. play 2 player games one pc against one another.

So pretty straight forward. But I just cant get to grips with what sort of configuration I need! I have managed to share folders but the transfer rate was painfully slow and now ive somehow ‘undone’ that. Do I need to set up an ‘adhoc’ network? Is there some sort of hierarchy? Is my routers name the name of my network? Ive managed to create a 'network' under my network places but wtf does this mean?!

I know theres loads of info out there and I have read A LOT but im just getting more confused. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be cool and may help my sanity.

    Thanks a lot.,

    JD

For your first question, we have a sticky right at the top of this forum, check it out. As for your second, the PCs must simply be able to communicate unrestricted and games should work fine. Make sure you open the appropriate ports on your firewall for the game and you shouldn't have much difficulty there.

    thanks for the reply.

So, step 1: "Create a new user group on each machine which will be sharing files to other computers"

    how do i do that?
