hello i hope some of you can help me or give me some advice. I have a linksys wireless router and an Maxtor ethernet HDD and my PC conected to it. I the Maxtor HDD says it has a UPNP i.e. you can tell it to search its self for media files. Thats all good. What im looking for is advice to what sreaming divice i should get in order to stream my media to my television and HiFi. The main poin of getting the Maxtor HDD was to allow me to stream all my media files without having my PC switched on. There are a couple of UPNP streaming devices out there but i would like to know is: -Have any of you done this type of thing, straight from HDD to streaming device via wireless router? -If so how well did it work, is it still working? -What is the best streaming device to get, D-lnk, squeezebox, some philips box etc etc? thank you for taking te time to read this i hope you can help me out.
this stands for Universal Plug aNd Play, i would think you would need another device to connect between the HDD & router (if such a device exists)
I understand what UPNP means. But as the HDD is UPNP compatible and the router is just a way of the kit talking to each other it should work. What im asking is: -What is the best bit of kit to stream media data from my HDD? -Is UPNP really plug and play (example Bluetooth suposed to be unversaly compatible but its not) -Has anyone tried this?
no the fact that the HDD is uPNP just means that the HDD will probably be detected by your computer when you attach it to your system, the computer is uPNP, and device that is uPNP compatible is only refering to connecting that device to your system
