i'm looking to find instructions on the steps involved in formatting windows 2000 professional, as well as, windows xp. Can you help??
my computer-> control panel-> administrative tools-> computer management-> under storage should be disk management. That should be very simplistic and archaeic form of partitioning through win2k/xp.
if you boot from the xp disk then u can do formats and reinstallations from there or if you boot of a win 98 start up disk the type fomat c: then that will do it to. hope this helps dave :good:
Sorry, but that won't work. A Windows 98 boot disk won't recognise an NTFS partition, so the user will get an error message saying something like "There's no hard drive!" The user would first have to remove the existing NTFS partitions with an operating system that can recognize them, such as Windows NT4, 2000, XP, or Linux. Only after the NTFS partitions have been removed can the HDD be formatted by using a Windows 98 floppy. At that point, the user would type the following at the command line: Code: format C: /s Without the '/s', the formatted would not be formatted with system files, and therefore would not be bootable. If the HDD is in especially bad shape, a format may fail. In that case, you would want to try using the 'unconditional' flag: Code: format C: /s /u All the best, -AT
have u got the setup disks to install ur new os. if so just go into bios and just make sure it is gonna boot from cd rom if using cd or floppy if u r doing a floppy install. if u r using windows xp it should format while going through setup etc.
