How much is this system worth?

Someone from work wants to sell me the following box. He had it "professionally" built, though I think I could have done a better job. He says he had problems with it, but they sound like they were primarily software based. He's not computer-savvy, so he just went and bought a Dell to replace it.

The box is about a year old and has the following components. I'd like to know what you think it's worth. The price next to each component is the approximate price I would get it from Newegg today.

CPU - Athlon 3200+ 2GHz 64Bit $60
Mainboard - ASUS A8V-E (No video) $60
RAM - 512MB, 333MHz KVR333X64C25/512 $42
Hard Drive - WD WD800 80GB IDE $40
DVD Burner - Lite-On SHW-160P6S $27
DVD-ROM - Lite-On SOHC-5236V $24
Video - S3 ViRGE "Number Nine" PCI $Not worth it

Wireless Ethernet - Belkin F5D7001 (WPA (not WPA2) compliant) $44

I'm planning to install Linux on it, so there is no cost for OS.

I would shoot for a price of 200$-250$ and not go above 300$ for it. It'll make a decent work box if you're not doing any kind of graphics work, but it'll never be a gaming box or a system for graphics. At best, it's something else to surf the internet on and do some word processing.

Wow! That much? I was thinking more around $50 or so.

I retrieved the box from him, nonfunctional. Opening the case, I found the RAM sitting in the bottom of the case. I reinstalled the RAM, and all of the other cables, and the computer fired up. Running MemTest found no errors.

The S3 video card has only 2M RAM. I'd need to purchase a new video card for this thing to work at all for my needs.

I also don't know if the tuner and wireless PCI card are worth anything to me.
 
I certainly wouldn't give more than I thought it was worth. If you think 50$ is all it's worth then offer that.

$50 is pretty cheap--rapably cheap. If the parts are in good condition, I'd look at more like about 80% of the current part pricing and offer that. It's not the latest, but offering $50 would be a low-ball bid. If I were selling that and they offered me $50, I'd tell 'em to take a hike.
 
Ok, you've all given me some things to think about. I don't want to swindle him.


The reasons I'm considering $50 is because of the comments he's made about the system, that it had problems, that I found the 333MHz RAM sliding around in the bottom of the chassis, that I have to buy a new video card for it, etc. There will be more money invested in it to get it truely up to snuff. Kind of like buying a car with no A/C in Florida.
