Be careful: some of this software may still be BETA! Therefore I am not to be held reponsible for any damages or loss of data resulting from following this HOWTO... yada yada. Anyway, let's start.

    1. What you need
    1. Computer with Windows and Mozilla Thunderbird (2.0 and higher works, not sure about lower)

    2. Mozilla Thunderbird extension: "Lightning" (it's actually Sunbird integrated in TB) for the Calendaring and syncing with Gmail Calendar

    3. Mozilla Thunderbird extension: "MozPod"; it is actually a tool to sync your address book, but it syncs Calendars too

    4. Ipod (mine is a Nano, I guess you could use most models)

    2. Steps

Remark: could be that you have to restart Thunderbird at certain points before you'll notice any difference.

2.1 Install the Lightning Extension for Thunderbird
2.2 Open Thunderbird and pick "File -> New -> Calendar". Choose "on the network" and paste the adress for your Gmail calendar (where your iCal file is, you can find this in the Gmail account settings section). Give it a name and a color if you like.

2.3 Enter some data in your Calendar; at some point a dialog box will appear asking to enter your username and password. Fill it in, and choose whether to you want Thunderbird to remember the password or not (it's easier to say 'yes').

2.4 Install the MozPod extension. In the Mozpod options, uncheck the setting "Clear iPod AB before each sync"

2.5 Plug in your iPod, as soon as you do, MozPod extension should show a pop-up saying it is syncing and whether it's succesful or not.

There you have it; now you have your Calendar in Thunderbird for easy access, Gmail Calendar so you can consult it from everywhere you can get online; and your iPod for when you are traveling or when you are left without a network connection.
