I want to buy a new motherboard but there is a problem. Almost all i'm interesting in have only 1 IDE connector. The problem is that i have an ide hard disk 250gb and an atapi dvd rw. If i connect the hard disk and the dvd rw to the same ide connector (as master and slave if i'm not wrong) will the hard disk perform in slower speed (at my asrock p4vm800 mobo when i do this the hard disk operates in lower dma mode) I would really appreciate any answer. don't buy a new mobo yet, have you tried C/S (cable select) it works exactly like Master & Slave but when drives are set to C/S, on the IDE cable, the Master is always at the end of the IDE cable and the Slave is always on the middle connector give that a try
