Howzit I've set up my ICS connection step-by-step as windows' help says. But it still doesen't work. I've got two computers running XP Professional with a working LAN. The host computer can access the internet. The client computer sometimes accesses the host's temporary internet files through Internet Explorer! But it doesen't connect to the internet. I'm using a dial-up modem on the host.
You're right, ICS isn't very good. I used to use it when I was a much younger person, and it caused me many hours of problems and frustration due to its unstable and insecure nature. If at all possible, you should consider building a dedicated system to handle your internet connection. It doesn't have to be much, a pentum1 class CPU ~100MHz or better with 64mb RAM or more running IPCop, a free, easy-to-use firewall operating system based on Linux, would suit your needs perfectly. All that being said, if you want to persue ICS we're going to need a lot more information than you've provided if you'd like us to help troubleshoot that issue.
