Hi. I have an early P4 8000 which was purchased used. I have setup CDs for an earlier P3-700, for which some of the drivers are usable. I've loaded Windows 2000 and everything works except for the internal ethernet card.
Device manager tells me that the card is a 3Com 10/100 but the driver for it does not make it function. Device manager reports an error code 10. I removed the cover, and discovered the card to actually be one apparently meant for an IBM thinkpad, type 19K5888 (a very popular card judging by sales info on the internet). I cannot find a driver for this card, but more mysterious is the fact that the card is indicated as a 3Com part as stated.
Does anyone know what is going on here? When the computer is first started with ethernet connected, the connection to my hub is made. But as Windows loads, the hub LEDs extiguish. Therefore I suspect the card is good from a hardware standpoint.
Thanks.
BernieK
