Installed XP - Now applications are gone!

I just installed XP Pro on my Dell PC which was previously running ME. I'm sure I followed the instructions presented during the installation routine but once XP was up and running, all of my programs were missing. What puzzles me is that I found all of their folders but the contents are empty. The folders were found on the local drive, 'C' under WINDOWS > START MENU > PROGRAMS. Applications like MS Office, HP Photosmart, and many others.

It sounds like you upgraded XP on top of ME. Providing that is the case, there's a couple of options available.

1.)If you have the CD's for the applications, it would be better off to take the XP disc and do a clean install. Meaning: boot off the CD and install it that way with a format of your hard drive (or at least the partition Windows was on).

2.)If you don't, pull out your system restore disc and let that restore your box to the way you got it originally.

Windows XP and WinME are based off two separate codes. XP uses the NT code, which was designed with business, networking, and better stability in mind than the 9x code, which was for home use, and where ME is based off of. Speaking from personal experience, this causes all sorts of hell.

Hmmm, if that's the case, why do I still have all of the folders? One of the emtpy folders is CCLEANER. This program was just downloaded last week. It is not an ME app. I think I'm screwed...
 
Folks, I believe the issue was just that XP and ME are mutually exclusive. I re-installed all the programs available and things work fine now.
