Well, after sorting through some hardware issues (thanks, Maxtor  ), I've finally got my Abit BP6 box going with CentOS 4.4. I finally figured out where to turn on the LIsa daemon so I can snag files off my main box. I've had some issue or other with a lot of distro's, but CentOS has yet to fail me. The next thing to do is set it up so I can remotely login. I just have to setup a few permissions and such, but I should be able to figure it out.

Glad you got it working, I still think that its a freak hardware configuration bug that other distros don't work well with.

I'm currently trying to get the network guy at college to use CentOS for their new web server, instead of Fedora Core...

One thing that could be an issue is that the CMOS battery ended up being replaced. As old as these motherboards are, it's definitely one of the things that had to be considered. I'm wondering if that was being a problem.

I've had issues with Mandriva 2006 and Kubuntu 6.06 when I've tried to get them going. I don't know if there was something that was off in the download that didn't show up with an md5sum check or what. Regardless, CentOS has never given me issues on either machine I've tried it on.

These are drives I got back from RMA a few years back. I have an 18GB WD that still works and is older than them. Hopefully, the Seagate buyout will lead to better Maxtor drives, not vise versa. Anyway, for now, Maxtor is on the shit list.
Still not half as irritating as how long it took to figure out the battery needed replacing. I think the most money I've spent on this thing was the new hard drive.

Anyway, when I stop being so lazy, I'll set up remote login to play with the command line from my main box. Not that it's more than a few feet away...but, I can do it, dammit! :p

[ot]I've never had a Maxtor fail on me! However I can recount many Western Digitals having problems :)

Samsung make the best hard drives IMO. Closely followed by Seagate[/ot]

[ot]well, i will only buy Seagate drives, i've never had a Samsung drive, cos IMO Seagate are the most reliable, maybe i should try a Samsung but my mouse automatically clicks on the Seagate drive (don't think i can stop it, but i will try, next time i buy a drive)[/ot]
