iXsystems of San Jose, California annouced today that they have acquired PC-BSD. PC-BSD is a complete UNIX operating system based on freeBSD with KDE and it's own software installer system, called PBI. It has been called here, "the most beginner friendly OS". I won't substantiate those claims but its worth a read. iXsystems will provide funding and development for the PC-BSD project. From the announcement: It's good to see some commercial backing for a freeBSD offspring. PC-BSD was already providing commercial support for their product but this will take it to another level. Enjoy ~Kenji BSD, the other, other OS.
i've just tried PC-BSD through VMware, and i was impressed, think i prefer it to Kubuntu, when is 1.3 releaced ? i think i'll get 1.3 (when it comes out, and put it on a spare HDD)
It's due out anytime this month. With the recent acquisition, it may be delayed or it may be out tomorrow. Check the website for news.
