    Hi All,

At work we use Kaspersky for our anti-virus, works perfectly on all machines running XP and 98, but the machines running 98 won't automatically update. To get updates and run the scan we have to start them manually.

Does anyone know of a way around this? Cheers.

Kaspersky is ok but Avast is generally considered to be the best AV, and i don't recommend you use 98 at all, as it is very very unstable & is a HUGE security risk using 98 on the net, as crap as XP is i would say that XP with a decent firewall and decent AV is a minimum that is required for net access

Hi donkey, unfortunatley my bosses will not put their hand in to their pockets to upgrade any of the OS's or pay for more licences so we are stuck with 98 on about 2 in every 10 pc's. Same goes for the Kaspersky, they want that to be used as we have paid for small business use. Is there some kind of patch available to correct the update issue?

I myself use the free version of Avast at home and it is superb, I will receommend it to them if they ever consider changing.

ive had a look on Kaspersky's site & i can't see an officail update for 98, they probably don't support 98 cos i think MS withdrew support for 98 in 2003, there may be some kind of unofficial update, i'll have a quick look for something

i found an unofficial service pack for 98, athough i don't know if i works, the unofficial service pack upgrades 98 SE to 98 SE.1a, download here

BTW: hope it work for you, & make sure you backup any system before installing

Edit: install the unofficial service pack at your own risk, basically i'm NOT resposible for anything
